My mom has diagnosed my persistent irritation with having to be in class all day as a classic case of spring fever, and I'm inclined to degree. The sun is out (sort of), and all I want to do is go on adventures and listen to music.
This is a very Annebeth-inspired look. She rocks these tea-length skirts like a pro, and I've been meaning to try it out for ages. I impulse bought these shoes at Target yesterday, and they seemed like the perfect complement to the longer-length skirt. I bought the skirt while out thrifting with Shannon a few weeks ago. I actually have this thing for red skirts. I must have four or five.
So, as you can see, I managed to get my hair platinum again! I just used the ManicPanic "Virgin Snow" toner once more, and it worked like a charm. Go figure.
I made that little rocking horse necklace way back in 8th grade out of a pair of earrings from this crazy mess of a thrift store that's sadly closed up shop in the intervening years. I don't often wear the necklace, but I always get a little thrill out of how freakin' adorable it is whenever I wear it.
Today's title comes from Aztec Camera -- "Release," which is one of my favorite songs off their amazing album High Land, Hard Rain. It was released when their core member and singer-songwriter Roddy Frame was only 19. It's SUCH an amazing record, and I strongly recommend it! Another gem from Postcard Records, the little Scottish indie label that also released Orange Juice and Josef K.
"Release" isn't on YouTube, but here's another great Aztec Camera song from High Land, Hard Rain!
PS--look at what a well-dressed cutie R. Frame was back in the day!
It may look like we're having beautiful spring weather. We're not. It's sunny right now, which is the first nice weather we've had in five straight days of heavy rain and clouds. The rain isn't supposed to truly stop until next Monday. i.e., the first day that I'm back in class after spring break. Nice timing, universe. Really nice.
All that being said, I'm still super-stoked to be on break. I've got lots of really exciting plans like 1) actually reading other people's blogs, 2) cleaning out my filing cabinet and reorganizing my files, 3) finding a way to arrange the furniture in my room so that I can use my speaker towers and my desk, and 4) putting decent content here on my blog. Alex's break isn't right now, sadly, and my friends from high school aren't on break either. What can you do!
Now, please enjoy some other photos. From left to right: me and my cat Kermit acting like the weirdos we are, another outfit shot, and what it looks like after I put in my hair product and before I make it go the right way
Today's title comes from The Pastels -- Crawl Babies. I'm obsessed with The Pastels. If you like The Vaselines, Belle & Sebastian, Beat Happening, or Tallulah Gosh, I know you'll love them.
100% thrift today, not counting tights. It's raining like crazy today, which I normally wouldn't mind, but it's supposed to keep raining the whole way through my spring break. Lame! I just took all my spring clothes up to school with me, too. :(
I've been using my camera that I bought in 2005 to take photos for these last two posts since it somehow manages to take way sharper photos than my camera from 2008. Oh well. It has some dead pixels and a weird dark spot, but it also has a swivel LCD like a video camera. Meaning that I can actually see where I am in the shot while I'm waiting for the self timer to go off. Very convenient.
Tomorrow, I'm going to finish up my Etsy stuff and catch up with all of your blogs. In the meantime, I am basking in the wonderful feeling of not having any pressing engagements or tasks.
Today's title comes from The Beta Band -- Dry the Rain. Such a nice mellow jam, and it's in one of my favorite scenes in my favorite movies, High Fidelity.
dress: vintage -- shoes: BC Footwear via Nordstrom Rack -- jacket: Levi's clearance -- tights: Target, gift from my sister <3
Can you tell how happy I was when I took these? I came back to campus after an appointment, and the sun was out and the grass was green, and I saw a weird little road leading into the middle of the expanse of grass with eucalyptus and oak trees that you see in these photos. It just put me in the best mood :) I totally sketchily parked my car in the CONSTRUCTION PARKING ONLY zone, shot some photos, did some dirt-road-driving to turn my car around, and exited the area just as a campus sheriff drove down the road I had parked on. Win!
After seeing so many gorgeous 50s dresses on bloggers recently, I was taken with quite a 50s dress jones that I couldn't seem to shake. Two weeks of waffling later, I decided that I should just buy the thing since I hadn't lost the impulse. I found it at my favorite vintage shop for $32, and that's on the more expensive end of their price spectrum. This dress is so amazing. It fits as if it were tailored to me. Nothing's too tight, too short, or too long. It's juuuust right! I think that at $110, this is the most expensive outfit I've ever worn on the blog, excluding ones that include my leather jacket. Not bad, eh? I may spend way too much time on clothes, but at least I don't spend way too much money.
I've been hearing Florence + the Machine -- The Dog Days Are Over on the radio, on friends' stereos, and in stores a lot recently. I like the song, but it always just makes me want to listen to Kate Bush, whose song "Cloudbusting" supplies the title of this post. That particular tune probably isn't the best intro to Kate Bush, so I'm posting the really cool video for her super-catchy song "Hounds of Love" instead.
I noticed I've been listening to music by women a lot recently. Joni Mitchell, Best Coast, Patti Smith, Kate Bush, and Beach House. There's something very refreshing about the female perspective since so much of the stuff I listen to (probably 85% or more) is by men.
