Apologies!

Hey, everyone, I am so sorry for totally failing to read blogs (much less update this one) this week. My computer's display driver seems to have totally stopped working on top of the usual school craziness. I've also got a lot of little other things going on, too. Hopefully things will be ducky once again soon!

used to be one of the rotten ones

dress: thrift -- sweater: thrift -- boots: thrift -- belt: thrift

Sam took photos for me today (thank you!), which was nice. Always using my tripod can get a bit old.

It's been kinda cloudy these last couple of weeks, but we have a ten day block of sunshine forecasted for the week to come, so there is that to look forward to :)

Still just persistently terse! I'm not sure what it is. I guess I've just been writing and thinking even more than I usually do recently, and I kind of run out of writing energy.

Dresses like this were made for spinning.

New nail polish!

Today's title comes from Broken Social Scene -- "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl."

don't worry, we're in no hurry

dress: Alameda flea market -- jacket: Levi's -- boots: thrift -- belt: thrift

Wearing my banner dress today!

Obsessed with going on walks lately. Bad at focusing. Excited for summer, but I've still got 6.5 weeks of school to go.

Roots are coming in. This blonde thing is high maintenance.

I am in love with Stephen Malkmus today. Please enjoy my two favorite Pavement songs.

Today's title comes from Pavement -- "Range Life."

rock on with your bad self

dress: thrift -- cardigan: thrift -- hat: thrift -- boots: Etsy -- tights: Target, present from my sister Molly

I hope you like my angry face. I whipped out my most scathing, withering looks for all of you! Just kidding. I'm actually a very silly person, but you all thought I looked really good with my angry face on in my last post, so I thought I'd do my best smizing for all of you today. I think it just looks hilarious.

I look normal in this one at least, right?

So, confession. This is probably the third time I've worn this outfit, I just haven't ever put it on the blog. It's super comfy, and it reminds me of Andi might wear in Pretty in Pink. She's pretty much my style icon.

This is the face I will make right before I say my most calculatedly cold put-down.

My computer has something terribly wrong with it, and will only run the internet browser and Picasa. Something really weird happened that corrupted one of the basic application-launching processes, and I've been working hard with my dad to try to fix things to no avail. Hopefully we'll figure it out today. In the meantime, I've been experimenting with cloud computing. Everything I need to read or write I have to upload and work on in Google Docs, and I've been using Grooveshark to listen to music since I can't use iTunes. I have to say that it's really convenient for someone like me who probably uses 2-4 different computers every day.

Today's title comes from The Hues Corporation -- "Rock the Boat." I'd say (without the slightest trace of irony) that it's probably one of my favorite songs ever. It never fails to put me in a grand mood. Make of that what you will :P

you shine all the buttons on your green shirt

shorts: thrift -- top: thrift -- shoes: Seychelles via thrift -- blazer: thrift

Like my pouty face? Sometimes I get sick of smiling for my photos, so I thought I'd push it in the other direction and look irritated :P

It's a terse day for me. I was working on a creative nonfiction piece late into the night yesterday, and it kind of sapped all of my writing energy.

I took a little mid-week leisure break last night to take advantage of 50% off day at Salvation Army. I had the good luck of finding both these awesome shorts and this lace top, and I thought it would be fun to try out the whole monochrome thing with my new finds.

I don't usually buy awesomely-bad things from the thrift store because if I did I'd have no money or space. Last night, however, I had to give in to the temptation. I found these pillows, you see. These latch-hook portrait pillows of a raccoon and a stag. It doesn't get much more wonderfully awful than this.

Today's title comes from Elvis Costello -- "Green Shirt." I've always wanted to use it for a post title, but I've never had a green shirt with buttons before now!

watched them fall like magic in the streets

skirt: thrift -- top: Urban Outfitters clearance -- cardigan: thrift -- shoes: Target

My mom has diagnosed my persistent irritation with having to be in class all day as a classic case of spring fever, and I'm inclined to degree. The sun is out (sort of), and all I want to do is go on adventures and listen to music.

This is a very Annebeth-inspired look. She rocks these tea-length skirts like a pro, and I've been meaning to try it out for ages. I impulse bought these shoes at Target yesterday, and they seemed like the perfect complement to the longer-length skirt. I bought the skirt while out thrifting with Shannon a few weeks ago. I actually have this thing for red skirts. I must have four or five.

So, as you can see, I managed to get my hair platinum again! I just used the ManicPanic "Virgin Snow" toner once more, and it worked like a charm. Go figure.

I made that little rocking horse necklace way back in 8th grade out of a pair of earrings from this crazy mess of a thrift store that's sadly closed up shop in the intervening years. I don't often wear the necklace, but I always get a little thrill out of how freakin' adorable it is whenever I wear it.

Today's title comes from Aztec Camera -- "Release," which is one of my favorite songs off their amazing album High Land, Hard Rain. It was released when their core member and singer-songwriter Roddy Frame was only 19. It's SUCH an amazing record, and I strongly recommend it! Another gem from Postcard Records, the little Scottish indie label that also released Orange Juice and Josef K.

"Release" isn't on YouTube, but here's another great Aztec Camera song from High Land, Hard Rain!

PS--look at what a well-dressed cutie R. Frame was back in the day!

if i could do just one near-perfect thing i'd be happy

First things first, the winner of the 100 post giveaway is Brinny of Not Without Incident! I found her blog on Chictopia ages ago, and it's one of my favorites. Not only does she have some seriously badass blue hair, she also has a wonderful knack for colorblocking and minimalism. She also has really nice photos. What's not to love, eh?

Goodness me, what a week it's been! Definitely one of my most stressful ever and certainly one of my worst since the start of college. I was just an underslept, underfed, overworked ball of stress. Unfortunately, the more stressed I get, the less likely to do productive things about that stress I become. The good news is that I did everything I needed to to a level of quality I'm happy with.

This weekend, I'm trying to be productive. I'm off to a good start. After sleeping for 12 hours last night, I woke up and got cracking on deep-cleaning my room a bit, something I've been meaning to do for about six weeks now. I've also got big plans to catch up on blogs this weekend, too. Sorry to have kind of fallen off the face of the earth.

So, what was I up to this week? The big thing was doing all kinds of reading, going to class, the usual. Beyond that though, I also had an art show open this week, meaning that I spent 9 hours on Monday installing that plus lots more time as the week went on fine-tuning stuff leading up to the reception. My dear friend and roommate from last year, Lauren, invited me to have a show with her. She's one of the most amazing artists I've ever met, so I was flattered and excited that she even asked. I said "yes," obviously!

Here are some photos from our opening. All of the photos are mine, all of the illustrations and the little clay figures are Lauren's.

Our first artistic collaboration, a poster for "Intro to Huge Manatees" (our school has a required program for freshmen called "Intro to Humanities") that we made on the first night of freshman year. Next to it is a poster that I designed for the show and our artists' statement.

Lauren and I!

As you can see, my hair isn't really platinum anymore. No matter how much purple shampoo or ManicPanic Virgin Snow toner I use, it won't stay ivory. I used the standard Wella toner and vol. 10 developer when I first did it, but it started to get yellow within a couple of days even though I only wash my hair every 2-3 days. (This sounds way more nasty than it is. I rinse it off daily.) Anyone have any good platinum hints?

If what you see of Lauren's work intrigues you, check out her DeviantArt. I really need to scan all of the work I've done in the last two years, because almost none of it is on the internet. Oops! When I do that, I'll post a link here :)

Today's title comes from Belle & Sebastian -- "If She Wants Me."

sometimes i go out by myself and i look across the water

School is busier than ever. I just couldn't get into the academic swing of things last week, and I'm really paying for it now. I'm taking four classes instead of three this quarter, and I'm still teaching a class, too. It really adds up. I barely have time to eat, let alone blog. I think I'll have a good grip on things soon enough though. It always takes some time to settle into a new schedule.

I've got big plans for a nice comeback on Friday though, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, don't forget to enter my 100th post celebration giveaway!

I also really, really highly recommend this version of Amy Winehouse covering "Valerie." It's seriously amazing. I've listened to it like ten times a day for a week.
